Privacy Policy

This privacy policy describes how the Viitta mobile application ("the App", "we", "us") collects, uses, and shares information when you use our compass and maritime cardinal marks application on Android and iOS.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Sensor Data

The App accesses your device's magnetometer (compass) sensor to display real-time heading information. This data is processed entirely on your device and is not transmitted to any server.

1.2 Location Data

The App uses GPS location (latitude, longitude, speed, and course heading) for two purposes:

• Calculating magnetic declination to correct compass heading to true north.
• Providing GPS-based heading when the device is in motion to improve accuracy.

Location data is processed on-device only. We do not store, transmit, or share your location with our own servers.

1.3 Advertising Data

The App displays banner advertisements via Google AdMob. AdMob may collect certain information as described below in Section 3.

1.4 App Tracking Transparency (iOS)

On iOS, the App requests your permission via Apple's App Tracking Transparency (ATT) framework before allowing AdMob to access your device's advertising identifier (IDFA). If you decline, AdMob will serve non-personalized ads only.

2. Information We Do NOT Collect

• We do not require or collect user accounts, email addresses, names, or passwords.
• We do not collect or store your compass heading history.
• We do not collect or transmit GPS coordinates to our own servers.
• We do not use analytics or crash reporting SDKs.

3. Third-Party Services

4. Permissions

The App requests the following device permissions:

5. Data Retention

The App does not store any personal data on our servers. Sensor and location data exists only in device memory while the App is running and is discarded when the App is closed or moves to the background.

6. Children's Privacy

The App is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. The App's ad configuration does not request child-directed treatment.

7. Your Choices

• Deny location permission: The App will still function as a compass using magnetometer data alone, but magnetic declination correction and GPS heading fusion will be unavailable.
• Deny tracking (iOS ATT): AdMob will only serve contextual, non-personalized ads.
• Reset advertising identifier: You can reset your device's advertising ID in your device settings at any time.
• Opt out of personalized ads: On Android, visit Settings > Google > Ads. On iOS, declining the ATT prompt achieves this.

8. Security

Since we do not collect or transmit personal data to our own servers, there is no centralized data store to secure. Sensor data remains on your device. Communication between the App and AdMob uses HTTPS.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected with a new "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
